Extended Hamburger Paragraph

Outline

To write an effective long paragraph or essay, you must begin with a solid five-sentence paragraph.

Using that, you add details and examples to each of the reasons you mention in the shorter paragraph. For instance, if I write that I love New York because it has such good food, the details would include the fact that there are a lot of ethnic neighborhoods in New York, including Chinatown and Little Italy, where the food is cooked as it was in those countries.

I would then add a specific example. This would include a specific time and a specific restaurant that illustrates the detail. It might be something, "For example, when I went to New York last month I went to a restaurant in Korean neighorhood in Queens where they served the best bulgogi beef I've ever eaten.

Again, make it specifc.

Below is the outline for your basic paragraph. Add to it to create an outline for your long paragraph.

Remember, try to reduce each reason to one key word.
